8 AR-P.MARETags : NATO forces Peacekeeping Military operations Damage assessment Airbone operation International cooperation Target discrimination Weapons effects Conventional weapons effects Military planning situational awereness Optimization Predictions Index. décimale : 363.124 Risques dans les transports : Transports aérien et spatial Résumé : Studiy AAS-43 investigates innovative means for reducing collateral damage in Peace Support Operations (PSOs). Collateral Damage is the unintentional damage that may occur as a result of weapon employment. The study starts with an analysis of NATO doctrines presently being developed for PSOs, and of problems encountered in recent missions. Target situations are derived from "real world" experience and a method for determining the probability of causing collateral damage are determined. Preferred weapons concepts are identified through a process which compares costs, lethality, probability of collateral damage and the result of a scoring technique whiwh assesses a concept's potential to incorporate a range of factors shown to be important to the overall objective of minimizing collateral damage. The study recommends a range of options for the modification and development of weapon systems whiwh could provide NATO Commanders with greater operational flexibility in target situations where it is important to minimize the risk of causing collateral damage. 8 AR-P.MARETags : Technology Weapon systems Integrated systems Design Safety Navigation Propulsion Aircraft Helicopters Missiles UAV Index. décimale : 363.124 Risques dans les transports : Transports aérien et spatial Résumé : Major trends in technology, weapon system performance goals and affordability for aerospace systems are occuring simultaneously. For avionic systems this performance and affordability can be achieved by functional and physical integration. "Functionally" integrated systems to achieve higher performance has been greatly aided by advances in computer technology. The desire to minimize cost for these systems has been accomplished throught a "physical" integration concept based upon common modules tied through a "physical" concept, called integrated avionics, has been used on new aircraft such as the US Air Force F22 fighter and the Boeing 777 commercial transport. The last few years have, however, seen a marked increase in the attention give, to mission planning both by the users, who are demanding improved facilities, and by the suppliersn, who are able to provide increasingly more capable systems. As a result, the air forces of many of the NATO countries are procuring new and advanced mission planning systems that AGARD Advisory Report.
