However, to reduce airframe manufacting cost aircraft manufacters are converting to parts machined from thick plate. The result of recent research indicates that forgings often offer significant adventages over components machined from plate. The purpose of this report is to present this information. 8 AR-P.MARETags : NATO forces Peacekeeping Military operations Damage assessment Airbone operation International cooperation Target discrimination Weapons effects Conventional weapons effects Military planning situational awereness Optimization Predictions Index. décimale : 363.124 Risques dans les transports : Transports aérien et spatial Résumé : Studiy AAS-43 investigates innovative means for reducing collateral damage in Peace Support Operations (PSOs). Collateral Damage is the unintentional damage that may occur as a result of weapon employment. The study starts with an analysis of NATO doctrines presently being developed for PSOs, and of problems encountered in recent missions. Target situations are derived from "real world" experience and a method for determining the probability of causing collateral damage are determined. Preferred weapons concepts are identified through a process which compares costs, lethality, probability of collateral damage and the result of a scoring technique whiwh assesses a concept's potential to incorporate a range of factors shown to be important to the overall objective of minimizing collateral damage. The study recommends a range of options for the modification and development of weapon systems whiwh could provide NATO Commanders with greater operational flexibility in target situations where it is important to minimize the risk of causing collateral damage.
