The primary role of an AEW aircraft is the long-range detection of airborne targets. As potent new airborne threats, such as low flying cruise missiles, reduce the timelines that traditional air defense systems have to react, the utility of an AEW system's long-range detection of airborne targets. 2 AR-P.ESPETags : avion aviation gouvernement government bird Europe aéronautique Index. décimale : 629.13 Génie aérospatial : Aéronautique Résumé : Usually described as "state" industries, European airlines have been criticized as uncompetitive, overmanned, and subsidized. But this view begs the question of why and how the state became involved in air transport, as well as the question of whether airlines could have succeeded in Europe and elsewhere without government support. The first comparative study of the complicated history of relations between the state and the air transport industry in Europe, the book travels from the earliest scheduled flights down to the era of liberalization and privatization in the 1990s. Martin Staniland concentrates on four key countries-France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom-exploring both the sources of support for airlines in Europe and the reasons why public ownership lost favor as the industry expanded. In particular, he examines links between the airlines on the one hand and national aircraft builders and ministries concerned with defense, foreign policy, and colonial administration on the other hand. The author concludes by considering the crises and restructuring experienced by national airlines in the 1980s and 1990s, and by exploring the related political battles over liberalization and privatization. 2 AR-P.ESPETags : Avions Aéronautique Aviation Histoire Historique Illustrations Photographies: STOFF Early Aviation Index. décimale : 629.130 22 Aéronautique - Illustrations Résumé : The concept of flight has intrigued man since he first observed the birds of the air. But not until the early years of the century of the 20th century would he successfully break the ties that bound him to earth.
This excellent pictorial history lavishly chronicles the exciting saga of those first aviators and their frail aircraft. As aviation historian Joshua Stoff shows, these courageous men and women flew planes that were little more than box kites of wood, cloth and wire, difficult to control and so sensitive to air currents that even moderate winds could cause them to crash. To fly such machines required, in Stoff's words, "a unique blend of courage, dedication curiosity and fanaticism".Picture History of Early Aviation, 1903-1913 [texte imprimé] / Joshua STOFF, Auteur . - New York : Dover Publications, Inc., 1996 . - 136 p. : Couv. ill. en noir & blanc, ill. en noir et blanc. ; 23 x 30 cm.
